Policy on a Red Light District

There are many activities that we would like to ban altogether, but that a local council cannot ban. While we cannot ban these activities, we can at least restrict them to a “Red Light District” so that the public are not reminded of them on a daily basis. If one of our candidates is elected to a local council, they will introduce what will be called the “Sleaze Ordinance” setting up a “Red Light District”. The following types of businesses will need to relocate to this area within six months:

  • Brothels
  • Massage Parlours
  • Escort Services
  • Strip Clubs
  • Nudist Clubs
  • Art Schools with Nude Models
  • Shops selling Pornography
  • Tattoo Parlours
  • Premises with Poker Machines
  • Pawn Shops
  • Buy-Back shops
  • Secondhand shops selling anything other than Antiques and Books unless run by a charity
  • Cash Loan shops other than Banks and Credit Unions
  • Businesses with Business Names containing the words “adult”, “cash”, “escort”, “loan”, “massage”, “nude”, or “tattoo”

The enforcement procedure will be that the owner of the premises will be served by the council with a “Notice to Show Cause”. At this point, the owner may terminate a lease of the premises without being liable for damages. The owner will have 30 days to give written reasons why the council should not take over the property. If the council is not satisfied with the reasons, the council may take over occupancy of the premises and sell the premises. The council will not have to pay compensation to the owner for a year. There will be a right of appeal to the councillors themselves.
